WHO AM I?

My name is Megan Helwig and I am a designer, illustrator and web developer living in Richmond, VA. I've lived in Richmond since I got my start as a designer with a BA from VCU's Robinson School of Media and Design in 2013. The decision to stay in the city has given me the opportunity to work with a variety of small and unique agencies, studios and businesses.

My skill set and work ethic have lead me to gain experince in traditional and digital graphic design, illustration, screen printing, photography and photo editing, packaging design, social media content strategy/design, in-house design and most recently, web development and design. I recieved a Full-Stack Web Developer Certificate from the University of Richmond in July of 2018, and have most recently been working with SingleComm as a Software Engineer.

EXPERIENCE

Software Engineer @ SingleComm

March 2019 - Present

Helped to develop a web application using Node, Typescript, Angular, and DynamoDB with infrastructure and deployment managed by AWS.
Most recently worked to help migrate the entire front-end from AngularJS to Angular 8 to create a more maintainable, scalable and testable UI while adding small but UX significant changes, like loading a graph with a ‘skeleton grid’ to improve usability.
Helped re-write backend as a part of a cost savings initiative to use DynamoDB in order to take advantage of serverless microservices.
Created and oversaw the deployment of a CloudFormation Template to manage all company users via AWS Cognito that is now in use in production.

Software Developer @ Creo Wellness, LLC

Jan 2019 - Feb 2019

Developed software as a part of an Agile team for an application using Java, MongoDB, Angular and Ionic for both mobile and web software applications.
Participated in daily SCRUM stand-ups to define the scope of work for the day as well as any blockers that could impede progress and to collaborate with other developers on the team.
Worked with Ionic to deploy the newest version of the IOS mobile application to the App Store.
Identified and solved problems in the UI and UX of both of the mobile and web applications.

Frontend Developer @ Anthem

Jul 2018 - Present

Coded Angular 4/5 application components of the Re-imagined Employer Portal using a test-driven approach.
Wrote UI unit test cases for components as a part of a SCRUM team using an Agile framework.
Collaborated with other parts of a product development team using Kaban boards on Jira Enterprise.
Identified problems with UI and expressed alternate solutions.

Designer @ Think

Jan 2018 - Jul 2018

Created print and digital design work and maintained brand standards internally as well as for a variety of clients under a creative director. Work includes:

Development and design of multiple websites.
Redesign of client brand packages/collateral such as brochures, flyers, and business cards for clients including Manakin Farms, Harris Williams & Co. and Puck's Market.
Sourced, edited and placed stock photography.

Designer @ Release the Hounds

Sept 2016 - Jun 2017

Hired as a design intern and was promoted to designer after 3 months. As a part of a five person team, worked on wide a variety of projects, including:

Created social media content, sourced stock photos and edited web content for agency side project 'The Soundview Project'.
Strategized/created holiday-themed watercolor illustrations as social media content for client Eagle Bay.
Created illustration used for multiple pieces of branch merchandise and branch promotion for the national brand 'Crunch Dynasty'.

In-House Designer @ Ellwood Thompson's Local Market

Working as part of a three person team, much of the time independently, to create a wide-variety of design work, including:

Brand consistent in-store signage with a 24 hour turn-around rate. Improved/maintained brand consistency as an in-house designer.
Created graphics for print, digital and social media to promote in-store events.
Designed print ads that were published in local magazines such as RVA Magazine and Style Weekly while maintaining a consistent brand standard.
